Welcome to the UF Campus Crime Project!
The UF Campus Crime Project provides an interactive map of the University of Florida, displaying the last 90 days of crimes that have occurred on campus, along with any available court records.
Users can explore the map by specific types of crimes, using the sidebar filter feature, and by a specific time period, using the top-right map widget. Users can also search and/or download a table of all UF crimes reported by the university police department, dating back to 2016.
The project was created in 2023 by two undergraduate students, Isabella Douglas and Zachary Carnell of the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications, on their own in response to what they perceived as the growing need for transparency between the university and its students and faculty. With the campus crime map, users can easily stay informed about the safety and security of their campus.
This website is not the official UF Crime Log created under the Clery Act, though some of this website’s data are based on the underlying official data. Refer to the disclaimer section for further explanation.
This website also uses a simple, responsive, MIT licensed and open source template called Bootleaf as a foundation for the basic functionality.
Isabella Douglas is a junior journalism major and a criminology minor at the University of Florida. She specializes in feature/narrative writing, data analysis and coding.
She currently serves as a Fresh Take Florida reporter where she works heavily with SQL and web development. In the past she worked as the digital managing editor at The Independent Florida Alligator, one of the largest student-run, independent newsrooms in the country.
She hopes to continue her journalism career with a focus on criminal justice and accountability reporting.

Zachary Carnell is a senior in the University of Florida’s journalism program, specializing in investigative reporting, data engineering, computer programming and full-stack web development.
As a reporter for Fresh Take Florida, he has been published in news outlets across the country, including AP News, Tampa Bay Times and the Miami Herald.
He began teaching himself computer programming when he was in middle school, going on to learn HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, SQL and Python. Through a marriage of coding and reporting, he hopes to empower journalists with the tools they need to hold people accountable.
